Attending a face-to-face orientation session is highly recommended, however, if you are unable to attend, please take time to read the following.
Begin by printing this page so you have step by step instruction in front of you while you are online.
Step 1 - Open a web browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer)
- Go to the website http://webct.montana.edu
-
On the upper right hand corner of the WebCT Entry Page, click "Check Browser" option
to see if your browser is validated. You will receive a similar message. Click on Browser Tuneup Page if your browser is not validated and on Return to Entry Page to continue if your browser is validated for use with WebCT.
- Be sure to contact the Distance Office if you are experiencing problems at any time.
Step 2 - Configure your browser settings
Enable Java (Internet Explorer)
- Select Tools , click on Internet Options
- Select the Advanced tab
- Locate Microsoft VM
- Mark Java Console Enabled
- Mark Java Logging Enabled
- Click Apply if prompted, and then click OK
- You may have to restart your computer
Set Cache to Always Reload a Page
- Select Tools , click on Internet Options
- Select the General Tab
- Select Settings from Temporary Internet Files
- Select the Every Visit to the Page radio button
- Click OK
AOL Users: Using a current version of AOL, minimize your AOL browser and open Internet Explorer to login. Click on the Check Browser button to validate your browser.
Step 3 - Logging into WebCT
- Prospective students can log into WebCT as a guest .
- Registered students can log in using their 8-digit WebCT ID after courses are open.
NOTE: Courses will be available to registered students no sooner than 2-3 days prior to the beginning of the semester for face-to-face orientation sessions. However, courses do not start until the first day of the semester.
To Log in as a Guest (anytime)
- Go to http://webct.montana.edu
- WebCT ID: cotstudent
- Password: guest
To Log in For Class (during the semester)
- Remember -- do not use the hyphen
- Enter this 8-digit number for your WebCT ID and Password
- You will immediately be prompted to change your password. At this point, your old password is your 8-digit number, and the new password is one you choose for yourself. Be sure to right this number down.
Step 4 - Online Orientation, Sample Course
- Once you log on you will see links to your courses on the left side of your MyWebCT Page.
- Click on the Student Resource Course , which is a sample course for you to practice with.
- Click on the Course Content icon and then on Table of Contents to find links to more information about WebCT.
- Refer back to this Table of Contents as a helpful resource to understand more about WebCT.
